I have not posted anything about renovations in a while. In a way, this is good. We needed to recoup a little bit since our full house interior renovation (minus the bathroom) this past winter. With that being said, Matt was really looking forward to taking on the projects on the exterior of the house. All spring he has been cutting down trees, clearing out brush and doing his best to expand our side lawn. Finally, we picked a weekend when the weather looked promising and that worked for my dad (since he was the operator) and rented an excavator to:
- expand our driveway
- add a small patio
- add a new 5 foot wide front side walk
- pull out a bunch of tree stumps, and
- expand and level our side yard
My dad came over around 8:30am and worked nonstop until about 5:00pm. We only had Saturday to accomplish all that work, but we were able to get it all done! Matt hauled slag (which is similar to a stone) all day with his dump trailer to fill in the new part of our driveway that my dad was digging out. We still have a few more loads that we need to haul this week so that the new part of our driveway is more level with the older part. Honestly, it is going to be great just to be able to park two cars side by side! This week we are going to buy bags of grass seed, lay down some straw and hopefully begin the process of re-growing our grass in all the spots that were ripped up or are new.
Our next projects? Landscaping the front of the house, mapping out the project (because I am sure this takes some type of plan and structural stuff first?) and then pouring the concrete for the new front side walk and patio.
Sooner than later,
