Athens, Greece

Today was my first full day exploring all of Athens, Greece. I woke up at 7:30am, got ready, and went down for breakfast!! The food was delicious, with many more options that I was expecting and very Greek! Before my tour group headed out to the Acropolis we did some introductions. Our tour guide for the 3-4 hour tour was awesome! She was funny and very knowledgeable, which made all the walking in the 95+ degree humid weather all the more bearable. By the end of the tour I was ready to take a whole course in Ancient Greek history I was so intrigued!! Maybe in my free time I’ll read some Greek mythology. It’s so fascinating to me now!

We got special tickets and walked around and took pictures of the Acropolis and Zeus’ temple. I can’t believe how the history is so much older and full of events and wars (America is so new).

Then we all went to this shop that makes custom Greek jewelry, so I splurged and got a bracelet with my name engraved in Greek in one of their precious metals. I can’t wait to get it tonight. My tour guide is delivering us all our orders. Other than that and lunch, I’ve been good with my money; although I did book 3 more “extras” today. An “extra” is an additional activity that I plan on doing while I am traveling throughout Europe. I figured while I am here, I wanted to make the most of my experience. So I am going to the pink beach in Crete, going to a spa on Paros and doing a boat cruise with cliff diving!! Can’t wait!

I was able to grow closer with more people today. It’s scary going to a new country and not knowing anyone. Tonight I’m bunking with 3 different girls (4 total in our room today on the ferry). One of the girls is actually staying for the next trip (Ultimate Greece) so we’re exciting to go back to the islands for 3 more days once our group leaves.
